(ALL READ TOGETHER)
God of hope and peace, as we worship
you this day, may we catch a glimpse
of your peace; may we open ourselves
to receive your grace; may we welcome
one another, as you have welcomed us;
may we prepare hearts and our lives,
for Christ to be born in us once again.
And when our worship is done, may we
be renewed in body and spirit, prepared to
bring your righteousness and justice to
the world. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen.

SILENT PRAYER
THE LORD’S PRAYER (ALL READ TOGETHER)
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;

we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil, for thine is the
kingdom, and the power and the glory forever.

HISTORY OF THE HANGING
OF THE GREENS
Our church tradition of singing Christmas
songs and decorating the church for Christmas
began December 1957. It wasn’t until the
following year that it was officially called
“Hanging of the Greens”. This program has
changed in many ways over the years; what
remains is the joy of remembering and celebrating
68 years of Christmas family and fellowship.
The four women who began this tradition are
Anna Prince, Emily Whitesitt, Julie Wallace and
Ruby Longbottom. Many of you may remember
some of these women; a very few of us remember
all four of them. We are thankful for their work in
establishing this beloved Christmas/Advent celebration.
