"Through the power of Christ, we are learning to live in simplicity, thankfulness, contentment and generosity in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana."
Things you might want to know about the Stevensville United Methodist Church (SUMC):
Time of worship service: We start gathering at 10:15 a.m. for a time of praise music with the worship service beginning at 10:30. Our worship service lasts about an hour. One of our greeters will offer you a bulletin (a program showing the order of the service) as you come into the building. Our worship service is also shown on the screen to the left side of the communion table.
After the service we get together for refreshments in the Fellowship Hall (just follow the crowd). Please join us so we can get to know you, and vice versa!
Dress code? Montana couture - you'll find people in jeans & t-shirts or coat & tie and everything in between!
Parking: We have loads of available parking on the street (College, Pine & E. Third) as well as a paved lot at the corner of E. Third & Pine. Our handicapped/ramp entrance is from the parking lot.
Handicapped accessibility: Our historic church building (including the sanctuary, fellowship hall, and the rest rooms) is accessible to those with wheelchairs or walkers. The second floor, including the balcony seating and the children's classrooms is only accessible by stairs.
Need childcare? The nursery is staffed and is located next to the church office. All volunteers are given background checks. A copy of the SUMC Safe Sanctuary policy is available in the church office.
Children in worship: We LOVE children! Your children are always welcome in the worship service!!! During the service the children come forward for a lesson as part of the worship service and then go upstairs for Holy Moly (aka, Sunday School).
Trouble hearing the service? Hearing devices connected to the church sound system are available. Just ask a greeter.
Music: we use four different hymn books - we like to sing! The United Methodist Hymnal (UMH), a purple hardback, is used most weeks; Faith We Sing (FWS), a black soft cover; Worship & Song (W&S), a green softcover; and We also use a red-covered "Praise" songbook during the praise pre-worship time
In addition to singing by the congregation, we also enjoy a wealth of musical offerings to include: an adult choir, a chime choir, a brass ensemble, and a blue grass quintet! Some weeks the music is shared on a piano, other weeks we use an organ. We enjoy singing by soloists, duets, trios, quartets and more! During the summer months we enjoy offerings by guest musicians and members of the congregation willing to share their talents.
Potlucks: From time to time we gather to share good food and great companionship in the Fellowship Hall. Don't worry if you didn't bring something, there is ALWAYS plenty to go around!
Communion (sometimes called the Lord's Supper or Eucharist): Usually celebrated on the first Sunday of the month. You are welcome to take part -The United Methodist Church practices open communion, meaning that this table is the Lord's and the SUMC is the host. You are welcome just as you are!
Communion details: If you need to served in the pew, we are glad to come to you. We have wheat-free and gluten-free alternatives to the bread we offer. Just ask the ushers or mention it to those serving communion.
Our serving methods for communion alternate: Our custom is for the congregation to come forward (as directed by the usher) to receive the bread and to dip it in the cup (this method is called intinction). During cold & flu season, we come forward to receive the bread and accept then the juice in small cups. We offer a gluten free wafer for those who require this option.
